Nestled in the northern part of Italy, Valtellina is a small but remarkable wine-producing area with a long history and a unique character. The most famous grape variety in Valtellina is Nebbiolo, locally known as Chiavennasca. Nebbiolo is the same grape responsible for the renowned Barolo and Barbaresco wines of Piedmont. In Valtellina, it takes on a unique character due to the region's terroir and microclimate. The Carterìa vineyard covers an area of 3 hectares in the Valgella sub-zone at 500 metres; the name stems from the name of a small hamlet of the commune of Teglio, where the Fay family has always owned some plots of land. The winery has started incorporating this land into its estate and replanting of the vines is in progress.
