This wine was born in the shadow of Etna, in a valley between the Nebrodi mountain range and the volcano. The vineyard is located in the northern part of the volcano at an altitude of 620 meters above sea level. The soil is volcanic, rich in minerals and skeleton. The vineyard, about 85 years old, is double spurred cordon trained. The planting density is 4000 vines per hectare.
Grape variety: Nerello Mascalese
Vinification: The crushed grapes are collected in stainless steel tanks where fermentation takes place in the presence of the pomace at a temperature of 26-28°C. The wine is then put into oak barrels where malolactic fermentation takes place. In the barrels, the wine remains for 12 months aging. After one year of aging in steel vessels, the wine is bottled with 12 months refinement.
Tasting notes: deep ruby red color, characterized by purple reflections. On the nose, it opens with a complex and enveloping aromatic bouquet, in which aromas of ripe red fruit, such as cherries, raspberries and plums, intertwine. Floral notes, such as violet, and spicy nuances are added. In addition, delicate hints of wood from the refinement can be perceived, with hints of vanilla and cocoa that complete the aromatic profile. In the mouth it offers a rich and enveloping tasting experience. The freshness is well balanced by soft and silky tannins, which give elegance and structure. The red fruit flavors blend harmoniously with spicy notes and a subtle minerality that recalls the volcanic terroir of Etna. The finish is long and persistent, with a pleasantly savory aftertaste
Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.
