Barolo Bussia DOCG comes from the splendid amphitheater-shaped vineyard in the Bussia Monforte d’Alba area. This historic wine was produced for the first time at Prunotto as a single vineyard wine in 1961. The balance and complexity of the Nebbiolo grapes are enhanced by the vineyard’s varied south to southwest exposure and the traditional aging in large barrels.
Grape variety: 100% Nebbiolo
Vinification: Only the best Nebbiolo grapes from the Barolo top vineyard "Bussia" are used for Prunotto's flagship wine. After the harvest by hand and the gentle crushing of the grapes follows the maceration. The young wine is then aged for two years in French and Slavonian oak barrels (50 hl) and a small part in barriques. This is followed by aging in bottle for twelve months.
Tasting notes: Brilliant garnet red with purple highlights. The nose is richly scented with violet flowers, ripe red fruit, rose hips, rock candy and dried fruit. Complex and mouth-filling on the palate, with fine sweetness on the attack. Ripe red wild berries, spicy components and noble roasted flavors. Skillfully structured, with fine-grained tannins and a juicy, elegant acidity. Lots of elegance and length on the finish.
Food pairing: This noble red just calls for a game dish.
